17 June 2023. June marks the end of the financial for Inner Wheel. IW and Inner Wheel Club, IWC Miri is very lucky to end the year with IW District 331 Extension Chairman, Datuk Nancy Ho visiting and conducting training for members on June 25.
As it is still in the month of June for Gawai Festival, thus to make the visit more memorable, IWC Miri is organising an IWC Miri Gawai dinner where some 60 members and friends are expected to attend the dinner.
It will be held at the Piasau Boat Club, PBC Miri at 6.30pm, soon after the training, also at the same venue starting at 4pm. Exciting programmes from traditional to modern dance performances, karaoke, games and prices for lucky draws and best top 3 dressed ladies in blue traditional costumes.
June 15, 2023 - preparation meeting for the two events were held at the local cafeteria, attended by Exco members and chaired by President. The meeting also agreed to appoint Caroline Siburat as Acting Secretary, taking over from the late IWC Miri Secretary, Florence Enau who died on 29 May 2023.
May 29, 2023 - Compassionate cash donations, coordinated by President, Cecilia Sman under the supervision of IWD331 Chairman, Rokiah Staun, totalling RM8,130.00 were received from members of Inner Wheel Districts – 330 (Semenanjung Malaysia), 331 (Sabah/Sarawak) and 332 (Singapore)
May 30, 2023 - The first batch of donation - RM6,530.00 was handed over by President, Cecilia accompanied by upcoming VP Busak Iboh and Rosena Litah (Committee member) after the funeral service held at St Columba’s Church. It was received by Norman Ingka (Nephew of Florence) while the balance will be handed during the memorial service to be held soon in Miri when her daughter, Suzanne and family come from the US.
On behalf of her family, a big thank you for the donations and words of comfort. RIP Florence.
Florence, 80, will be missed dearly, as she had vast experiences in running the Club which was Chartered in 1975. Florence was president for 17 times since 1984, holding secretarial post for several times and was also the IW Vice District Chairman in 2018
She, a La Jolla, USA native was also well known for her volunteerism since she first came to Sarawak as Peace Corp Volunteer in the 1960. The Peace corps was established by President of United States John F Kennedy in 1961. She was married to a local, Jimmy Layang.
She first taught at St Columba’s Secondary School in 1976 and she later became the headmistress of Sri Mawar Kindergarten from 1985 to 2006.
Florence was a very exemplary volunteer and senior citizen involving in many non-governmental organisations and before she died, she was the then IWC Miri Secretary, President of the Society of English Writers Northern Zone (Soswe) and a member of the Miri Petroleum Women’s Association. https://www.theborneopost.com/2023/05/30/writers-group-in-miri-bids-farewell-to-former-president/

March 11, 2023 President Cecilia Sman and Secretary Florence Enau attended the11th IWD331 Annual General Meeting held in Kota Kinabalu Sabah.
February 7, 2023, IWC Miri AGM held at Gymkhana Club Miri, with Cecilia Sman elected as President, VP Bharathi Anand, Treasurer, Heilda Amer, Committee members were Dr. Loh Yunn Hua, Rosena Litah, Iris M. Apun, Busak Iboh, and delegates – Cecilia Sman, Busak Iboh and Caroline Siburat – Deputy Delegate.
