This year, the Lunar New Year celebration was held at the Silk Restaurant, SICC on 24 February. Practically all the members were present, 19 out of 22 members.

As Singapore is still in partial locked down due to the pandemic, we were seated in three locations inside the restaurant. The mood was somewhat muted as no intermingling was allowed. The atmosphere was still very festive with members turning up in symbolic CNY attire and the restaurant decorated with festive red lanterns. But members can greet each other with an acknowledging wave, and a brilliant smile.

Tossing Yu Sheng was always the highlight of the celebration but was done differently this year. We tossed the ingredients with long chopsticks and gloved hands, and the usual chatter of auspicious words and cheering laughter were absent. Nonetheless, we were delighted to see each other and enjoyed the sumptuous lunch together.

Seeing their smiling faces reminds me of what I had read before, that “the best thing to hold onto in Life is each other”. Yes, at whatever age or under any circumstances, we should hold on to our friends and family.

During lunch, election of office bearers for 2021-2022 was conducted through ballot papers. Maya Mitsis was elected as President with Joanna Sie as Vice-President.
