Collaboration with The Food Bank Singapore
Inner Wheel Club of Singapore West
24 February 2021
Following the end of our 2020 collaboration with our special sponsor to alleviate the financial difficulties faced by foreign non-residents due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we worked on extending further aid to local residents who continue to face hardships.
In this regard, our sponsor endorsed our plans for the next 12 months to provide financial assistance to about 300 beneficiaries. The support will cover:
1) Food and non-food support
2) Shelter support
3) Tuition support
4) Clinical and pharmacy care
This report will cover our visit to The Food Bank Singapore. Details of this IPC are available at www.foodbank.sg.
Eight members were present when we presented a check for $100,000 to co-founder of the charity, Nichol Ng. The donation will support beneficiaries identified by our club.
The charity was featured in Forbes’ Heroes of Philanthropy list in 2017. Nichol humbly said, “The biggest legacy that our father left us was the understanding that it’s never about money or having your name on the wall. It’s about the impact you can bring to society, in the smallest of ways.”
We realise that there is often food and grocery wastage due to unaligned distribution to families and the elderly. Hence, we work closely with another group of volunteers to identify the beneficiaries in the housing estates and private shelters. These volunteers also help to pack the groceries at The Food Bank and arrange for delivery.
Thus far, families living in 5 housing blocks in Toa Payoh, Ang Mo Koi and Clementi have been identified to receive aid.
The families will also receive non-food items like household cleaning essentials purchased by our members participating as the COVID-19 team.
