A very warm welcome to all of you. Thank you for nominating me as your District Chairman. I am honoured and privileged to be elected. I congratulate all the new office bearers heartily on your appointments and wish you a successful year. This year’s theme is aptly described as “LEAVE A LASTING LEGACY”. It is obvious for any of us to want to leave a legacy in what we have done. We will always want our projects to be worthwhile, be recognized and a showcase of our efforts. But how do you leave a legacy other than choosing a worthy project? Actually it does not matter if the project is something big or something small. It will be great if it impacts society and benefits a large group of people. But it doesn’t matter if a certain category of people or portion of society believes in you. In my mind, you do not aim to leave a legacy by choosing a project. It all comes down to the compassion you show in doing what you are doing. The people decide whether your project is worth remembering. It is therefore very important for all when doing our projects, no matter how big or small, to put our heart and soul into it. Our compassion and dedication will shine through and be remembered. And, who knows, one day in the near future, what you have done will be remembered and talked about fondly. Lastly, I want to break tradition on the custom of recognising the visiting DC with “a token” from the Club. In my term, I will rather Club members forgo this tradition and instead concentrate on the projects on hand.
